This project involved retrofitting the Mooring Wharf and its support facilities to enable the Navy to directly support the operations and maintenance of a new floating dry dock. The project is located at Naval Base San Diego (NBSD) in San Diego, CA.

In collaboration with Manson Construction, Silverado (SCI) was tasked with demolishing the existing concrete ramp pier and removing the seismic cluster at the Mooring Wharf. The primary challenge for the demolition scope was working in a tidal-influenced environment within the bay.

SCI employed a strategic approach by saw-cutting the concrete structures into manageable sections, which were then lifted and hoisted using Manson’s barge crane. Internally, SCI’s Marine Division developed an innovative plan to shift demolition efforts from manual methods conducted on floating platforms to a mechanical approach executed from the structure’s deck. This shift allowed crews and equipment to selectively remove various structural components without being affected by tidal interference.

The result was a highly successful plan that returned the areas to Manson ahead of schedule, paving the way for the construction phase.
